Experience : its a duration on an instance but with technology growing so fast and rapid pace of  development that the word "Experience" is just started to be parametrized to 3-5 min. sitting in front of screen.

logo and Icon

Its my personal opinion that pictorial representation of a concept is icon , and is widely recognised by, and you don't need a text supporting it more of pictorial.
where as
logo are concepts and they are abstract, which may or may not require text to support and needed to be made recognized by users for certain concept, there are  some might make your brain to think what it made  for else its easily understand . at times a pictorial representation of charters also. like a person name. if we talk about organization they too have name and we symbolizes that those few characters. like Bloggers "B". The name in it self is so big that you don't need to give an organization feel to it. If that is very popular, but if its not it becomes a tough one to achieve that, but for all of us now we are happy with the same pattern. ie convert characters to icon. make big T or Big R.
there are some intelligent logo making too. very sharp with there thinking. they blend it and put a little curiosity to recognize it but when you do it you really appreciate his thinking. i will send out some links to such creative logo making. I think they are complete.
if you look at other logos then there is a issue like you wont be able to make it out what it made for unless its supported by text this is a fact its really hard to achieve such a thing and it will be widely accepted. like blogging websites you take out icons of such blogging site, do you see some pattern.
i guess not. though they belong to one generic concept blogging. but we move one step deep and tried to provide identity to  these abstract concept which will be blogging site specific and blogger on goggle and blogger on yahoo... its all different.

icon or pictures

When ever you use an icon its used for the representation of concept, now  you can't be detail if you go details and getting more realistic and pacing a real picture you might confuse the user on the page. though he might figure out what it ment for but still he develops a sense of confusion.
the cartoon, icons must be used to represent an concept. I will not call it an idea. it will add more confusion.
we can use 1st pic for home but it will be too detailed and specific. we go for generic.
but on going generic if we don't provide substantial distinction it will mix with other concepts.
like image below extreme rt. seems like big up arrow symbol.

Making your sites

The feel of a home page - first impact.
when we view a site if you can make it  out what are the targeted audience well you done your job.
but that is only 1 part of it.

The relation of graphics and text
lets speak some thing about visual graphics used. remove the text and see how your web site speak for him self
Now do the other way. remove all the graphics and let check out your  site how does it do.

It will help to know how much you text need on your site.
to build a clean site, not overloading a page with information.

I just don't like overloaded contents and graphics, it should be clean as much as possible.
Making graphics : icons must be easily recognized by end users and he must be able to relate.
 its your creativity.
